Homemade Rasam Powder – Simple & Authentic
Rasam powder is a staple in many South Indian kitchens, known for its warm, comforting aroma and digestive benefits. Making it at home not only enhances the flavour but also ensures freshness and purity.
Ingredients:
Whole black peppercorns
Coriander seeds
Cumin seeds
Fenugreek seeds (use sparingly to avoid bitterness)
Pigeon peas (toor dal)
Method:
Begin by heating a pan over a low flame. Add the black peppercorns, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and a small quantity of fenugreek seeds. Stir continuously to ensure even roasting.
Next, add the pigeon peas and continue roasting until all the ingredients turn lightly golden and release a fragrant aroma.
Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely. Once cooled, grind it into a fine powder using a mixer grinder.

Tips for Best Results:
Always roast on a low flame to prevent burning.
Do not add too many fenugreek seeds, as they can make the powder bitter.
Store in an airtight container to retain freshness.
